TEF & Frontline Receive Grants to Expand Programs for Home Care Workers

The Training & Education Fund and Frontline provide training, educational support and career advancement opportunities for home care workers to enhance the quality of care they deliver and provide better outcomes for consumers

HARRISBURG – The Training & Education Fund (TEF) and Frontline – two of Pennsylvania’s premier healthcare training organizations – are proud to announce that this May, they are recipients of two new state grants from the PA Dept. of Labor & Industry (L&I). The funding is aimed at increasing access to essential training for home care workers and providing enhanced job quality and ultimately better outcomes for the seniors and people with disabilities they care for.

The SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania Training & Education Fund, a division of the non-profit TEF, has been awarded $598,632 to provide paid training opportunities to union home care workers with the Commonwealth’s Centers for Independent Living in more than 16 counties.

“Home care workers often face tremendous obstacles in getting the essential training they need to do their jobs well,” said Lisa Williams, Executive Director of the Training & Education Fund. “This new funding to provide paid training opportunities will help us train even more home care workers and address the direct care worker shortage in PA.”

Frontline, a TEF partner organization, is set to receive $558,952 to develop enhanced training for home care workers in areas like enhanced care for those suffering from dementia and disability-specific education for a home care worker's particular client's needs.

“These enhanced trainings will be incredibly beneficial to the workforce and have an even more positive effect for the participants and consumers these caregivers are responsible for,” said Barbara Conrad, Executive Director of Frontline. “The demand for well-trained caregivers is only growing here in Pennsylvania and this program fills a very real need.”

Grant funds and programs are monitored by L&I, which will receive regular progress updates from both organizations. TEF and Frontline are proud to be working with L&I and thrilled that the department supports their mission to provide training and support for Pennsylvania’s home care workforce.
